Social Currency

Social Currency. What do we mean by that? Well, it means different things to different people, and that’s definitely part of its attraction. One thing it makes me think about is that our lives are fundamentally pretty social, and that technology is helping to broaden and strengthen those social connections. We do lots of things socially, but one thing we don’t really do socially is money stuff. For that we still rely on the banks. And whatever they may do, they don’t really do it socially.

Without wanting to demonise them, banks are about profits, both for their employees and their shareholders. That’s not unreasonable, it’s the way things have evolved, and it probably kind of needed to be that way. But because of the profit motive, banks will charge as much as they can, wherever and whenever they can. Again, that’s just the way it is.

Usually, there’s not much we can do about that. But sometimes there is. And getting money for our holidays is one time when we definitely can do something about it. Some of us already try to just swap money with our friends, thus cutting out the banks and their charges. WeSwap gives everyone that opportunity, always. People can swap with people, and the banks don’t get their cut. We think everyone wins. Well, maybe not the banks…
